Yorkshire Cancer Research
I am running the MDS to test the limits of my endurance, but even more importantly I am running to raise as much money as possible for Yorkshire cancer research (YCR); a fantastic charity, that's been doing great work for many years.
The majority of us have all had our lives rocked by cancer at some point, and I am no different. When originally planning to run the MDS, I knew I wanted to do it in aid of a great cancer charity and while doing some fundraising for YCR during my time studying at the University of Leeds, I couldn't think of a better charity to raise money for.
Yorkshire Cancer Research works tirelessly throughout Yorkshire to help improve the lives of people living with cancer, by supporting world-class research, diagnosis and treatment. The charity has an ambitious goal for the next 10 years and I hope that even in a small way, by doing this race I can help them move towards achieving that goal.
Yorkshire Cancer Research goals for 2020:
- More people in Yorkshire will survive cancer, and have a better quality of life
- There will have been further scientific breakthroughs from Yorkshire
- We will have invested in science that has resulted in improvements to clinical and surgical practice, and has brought treatments to market
- We will be funding over 300 of the best doctors and scientists – twice as many as 2010
- We will have identified Yorkshire's next generation of leaders in cancer research
